The
Dojo Drummers are a vibrant exciting performing group based at and
representing the Mugen Taiko Dojo, performing at festivals, special
events and private engagements.
The
performance features thrilling taiko drum beats and dynamic choreography,
infused with explosive energy, performed in full costume. The Dojo
Drummers perform mainly as a 6-piece, but have a flexible line-up,
with up to twelve performers at large-scale events.
The Dojo Drummers repertoire consists of both traditional taiko
drum pieces which display the rich traditions of Japan, and also
modern compositions, which are energetic and highly choreographed.
The performance uses the full range of taiko drums, from a visually
impressive one and a half metre diameter skin drum to small high-pitched
drums for the fast and precise rhythms, and also various percussion,
all the highest quality instruments imported especially from Japan.
Past performances featuring the Dojo Drummers have included large
sporting events such as the Worthington Cup Final at the Millennium
Stadium in Cardiff, international rugby matches at Perth, Swansea
and Twickenham, and various outdoor festival appearances in UK and
Ireland, such as the Sighthill International Festival in Glasgow,
the Tall Ships Festival in Waterford, the Middlewich Folk Festival,
as well as many corporate events and private engagements across
the UK, at venues such as Birmingham NEC, London Excel and Manchester
G-Mex.
